Movies

Dog movies from the recent past that have made me laugh, cry and uplifted my spirits by these incredible movie characters. These are my personal favorites that have touched my heart. What are your favorites?

Iron Will (1994)

Young Will needs courage and will to complete a cross country race.

This movie inspired my love of sled dogs – shortly after I saw this movie Kanaya found his way to me!

Eight Below (2006)

Sled dogs and survival. Sled dog stories get me every time! This movie has significance for me as Kanaya was starting to go through some health issues during this time and the emotion of this storyline got to me big time.

My Dog Skip (2000)

A terrier puppy enriches the life of a boy. This movie perfectly captures the special bond and friendship we have with our dogs.

Marley & Me (2008)

Based on the bestseller. Life lessons provided by Marley. I was biting my lip trying not to cry during the ending and cried anyway. Kanaya had passed the year before and the passing of a pet is just so gut wrenching and one of those human experiences that is so hard to describe why we grieve so much and watching this movie was hard but worth it just like having those special creatures in our lives.

Turner and Hooch (1989)

Tom Hanks adopts Hooch to find a murderer. Its been awhile since I have seen this one and Tom Hanks is upstaged by Hooch big time!

Best in Show (2000)

Competitors at a national dog show. Christopher Guest – Need I say more?! Whenever I go to the Golden Gate Kennel Club show I want to see this movie. Office Space for dog show people!

There are many more classics such as Lassie, Old Yeller, etc. I hope this inspires you to check out some great movies and watch with your best friend.
